Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon unveiled their 6-month-old twins during an interview with Barbara Walters on ABC’s “20/20” on Friday night.
“My family gives me everything,” Nick beamed to Barbara. “Unconditional love means…the world to me. I mean, it’s completion.”
“It’s just love,” a proud Mariah added. “It’s a beautiful place to be.”
Mariah and Nick welcomed their twins – who they affectionately refer to as “Dem Babies” — in April 2011, on the couple’s third anniversary.
And as Mariah explained to Barbara, it wasn’t an easy pregnancy.
“I don’t think I understood the enormity and the magnitude of what it really does to your body,” the singer said. “Carrying two babies. Unless somebody’s been through it, it’s difficult to understand what I went through, because my pregnancy was very unique in terms of what happened to me.”
What happened was extended bed rest, a few false alarms and several trips to the hospital, all of which left Mimi wondering if her body would ever recover from the physical strain.
“I had serious back problems,” she said. “I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to walk properly again. It was a huge strain.”
As for how the twins entered the world when Mariah hit her 35th week of pregnancy, it was a sound both mom and dad were very familiar with.
“They came into the world to a live version [of my song ‘Fantasy’],” Mariah told Barbara. “The only reason I wanted it to be the live version is because I wanted them to hear the applause upon entering the world.”
