Mariah Carey feared she would never be able to walk properly again after she was confined to bed for the latter stages of her difficult pregnancy.

The Hero singer admits it was a real struggle keeping her twins "in" as she approached the 30-week mark of her pregnancy earlier this year (2011) - and it took all of her willpower to rest up and fight going into a dangerous early labor.

Suffering from high blood pressure, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, the 40-year-old mum-to-be couldn't even go to the toilet by herself for fear of collapsing.

In a news special on U.S. TV show 20/20 on Friday night (21 Oct. 2011), the new mom, who had previously suffered a miscarriage, revealed, "I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to walk properly again. It was a huge strain.

"I would sit and then someone would have to help me up. I couldn't go even to the loo by myself. It was just like, 'What are we doing? Are we going to the hospital? No, I'm gonna stick it out, I'm gonna keep taking this medicine to keep these babies in... I made it to 35 weeks and then the doctor said it wasn't safe anymore."

Carey's twins Moroccan and Monroe were born via a Caesarean section on 30 April (2011).
